We are going to park right at the entrance of the road leads to Topp Hut, or on the roadside of Baylor Canyon Road, take the lower desert, hike towards the Topp Hut and the Ruby Mine ruins. We will explore the mine a bit, to see if there are any ruby nuggets left behind. And then walk back to the cars. Some more adventurous hikers may continue up the mountain a bit after Ruby Mine, and climb up the trail often referred as the Rabbit Haunch trail.
Turning around at the mine site is about 4 miles round trip, with negligible elevation gain, and we will be walking on an old jeep road all the time.
If continue to explore Rabbit Haunch, will add about another mile, with a few hundred feet of climbing.
This is a hike for everybody, especially if you are among the hikers turning around at the mine.
We will take frequent rests as necessary. The hike will take about 3 hours.
Meet up at KMart at 8:00 am for carpool, or trail head at 8:30 am.
