Narrows

Meet 8 AM Pan Am parking lot, or 8:30 ish at the dripping springs visitor center. Start hiking back at la cueva picnic area after registering at the visitor center. Go up the south side of La Cueva and then up fillmore canyon, take the informal spur trail towards the Narrows. This gains about 1500 ft and the trail thins out near the end but follows a canyon to a gap between 2 cliffs of different colored rock, which makes a good place for lunch or snacks. We have been here many times. Should be back by early afternoon. Hope it stays cool and wet and not too hot. Easy trip, no long driving. Bert V

Wow!!! Being new to this area, What a different place it is in the Organ Mountains! Going from the High Desert to an almost Alpine climate in a 3 mile walk was amazing. When I am more acclimated to this place I'll turn this trip into an all day exploration. :) I have to admit that from a distance the Organ's look fierce but this is truly one of the most amazing places I've ever been.
The group was great with a lot of experience levels - no one is left out and no one is expected to go beyond their skills!

It was a great time. The rain just added a bonus dimension. The narrows is a very unique formation with plenty of protection from the rain.

I enjoyed the hike although it was harder than expected. The rain was a great bonus keeping it cool and creating great waterfalls, flowing streams and low clouds. Enjoyed meeting new members and carrying two phones. Everyone took great photos. Had a great time and would enjoy doing it again!!!!

Loved it. Even though we got drenched it was still a beautiful day and a great hike.

Map I created from my GPS tracks of the trail: http://osm.org/go/TnFf1aAC-- The bits heading up to the Narrows (but not the Narrows themselves) are probably inaccurate, since my GPS lost signal.

I would have had a blast had I not felt so guilty for my kid getting drenched. I'll be coming again.

You're so right Bert! We should go again before monsoon season is over. I had so much fun hiking in the rain...made me feel like a kid.

Great views, nice climb, perfect ... Oh yeah, don't forget rain gear. I have lots of gear for staying dry - it was all sitting on a shelf in my garage.

Did anyone have a GPS track all the up to the Narrows? Predictably, my GPS lost signal as I got up there?

Fantastic waterfalls, relatively easy hiking (after the altitude-gaining, loose rocky bit in the middle), and beautiful formations and vertical rock walls at the Narrows

I will drive strait to Dripping Spring as I am driving from El Paso. The dirt part of the road is a rough ride on a street bike though! See you all there at about 8:30.

I should mention - its $3 per car at dripping springs, they dont allow dogs (so no Buster). Its about a 6 mile round trip, mostly good trail except it gets hard to find right before the Narrows.
No scrambling, but definitely uphill. This will help get you in
    shape.
