Bishop's Cap

Go to Mesquite exit off of I-10 and head east 4 1/2 miles to the sierra vista trail access point. This road may be rough. Greg magee's book has directions. The hke is OFF trail, is 4 to 5 miles long and there is some scrambling and a little route finding, but there is no dangerous exposure. Should be back by early to mid-afternoon Bert V[masked]

This was one rough hike. I liked the view from the summit and the nice breeze standing near the cliff face. But the best part was the company. Everyone was great!

That was one tough hike. Yes, we all ate our share of bugs that day. If anyone out there is looking to get into shape go on this hike! Oh, thanks to Charlie for removing the thorn from my boot. Glad to hear Buster is doing okay.

Tough hike, I didn't even finish. I'm still in awe at the amount of bugs out there and I was picking tiny little thorns out of my legs all night. I can't complain about a day in the mountains though and it was good company. I hope Buster has a speedy recovery.

Thanks to all 6 who attended and waiting up for me at the end, and to getting some first aid to my dog. I was scared for him. I had to go back up to get him because he was caught on a ledge and that's when I noticed his bleeding feet. For awhile I thought I might have to abandon him. He was also getting hot.
I enjoyed it an I know it was a tough outing, I hope everyone enjoyed it, I know I sure did. Bert

Sierra VISTA, you mean? If we're talking about the same place, it's a bit rough on a car to get there, and if you didn't know it was there you'd never find it. Map of the area I've made: http://osm.org/go/TnFY@p4g--

We meet on Saturday Oct 2 at 8 AM
at the Pan AM center NMSU basketball arena NE parking lot.

The trailhead is 5 miles east off of I-10 Mesquite exit (10 miles south of Las Cruces back towards El Paso.)
If anyone wants to drive straight to the trailhead from El Paso
let me know, and if you need directions.. Its the sierra blanca trail access point. The road is dirt and probably OK for a car but dont hold me to that.

I plan to take my crazy dog so if you take yours let me know that too.

Is there a place that we can meet? And who is Greg Magee? I don't have a book, so I will need some help in finding it.
