McKittrick Canyon has been described as the "most beautiful spot in Texas" and in late October the fall colors should be spectacular. The changing of the colors are a bit late this year. What I have I mind is a 6.8 mile out and back to what is called the Grotto. This is an easy hike with good trails little elevation change and great photo ops.
http://www.nps.gov/gu... This should be a great hike for a turn around point picnic. Hopefully no rain gear or change of shoes will be necessary. For the Las Cruces folks the meeting place is the Pan Am Parking lot at 8:00. I like Carlos' idea for meeting in El Paso so the Las Cruces group will meet the EP hikers at Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse at 12100 Montana Ave and N. Loop 375, exit 35. Take I-10 to Tans-moutain (N. Loop 375) to Montana Ave. at 9:00.
