Let's face it—we are ALL going to overeat this weekend, if not in the coming month. Get a hike in so you can feel less guilty about that second helping of pumpkin pie.
Our plan is to turn around at the top of the pass but if we're feeling good, we may keep going to Aguirre Springs, turning this into a 10 mi round-trip.
DISTANCE is ~5–6 mi round-trip, out and back to the top of the pass.
ELEVATION GAIN is ~1500 ft to the top of the pass.
FEES: None. Of course, if you carpool, please compensate your driver for gas!
DURATION: 3–4 hours. Hopefully finish no later than 1 pm.
PET FRIENDLY? Yes. Bring a muzzle (you shouldn't need be told to bring a leash).
SKILL LEVEL is intermediate. No whiners!
TERRAIN starts in the desert (with no shade), climbs to riparian forest (juniper, etc).
WEATHER will be chilly but will warm up by noon—please bring adequately warm, layered clothing that you can remove.
AFTERWARDS we may get lunch. Something that is not turkey.
