This New Year's Day, let's have a good start at keeping ourselves more active and healthier for the year 2014. Let's do a hike pretty much anybody can do: Baylor Pass!
We will park at the trailhead at the west side, and climb to the pass, and come back.
The hike is on well maintained trail. So, rain or shine, snow or hail, we will do it! (I write it this way because I am powerless to twist the weatherman's arm to make sure that he will give us a fair day half a month down the road. But it sounds so good!)
DISTANCE is ~6 mi round-trip, out and back to the top of the pass.
ELEVATION GAIN is ~800 ft to the top of the pass.
FEES: None. Of course, if you carpool, please compensate your driver for gas!
DURATION: 3–4 hours. Hopefully finish no later than 1 pm.
PET FRIENDLY? Yes. Bring a muzzle (you shouldn't need be told to bring a leash).
SKILL LEVEL is intermediate. No whiners!
TERRAIN starts in the desert (with no shade), climbs to riparian forest (juniper, etc).
WEATHER call your weatherman before getting into your car.
AFTERWARDS we may get lunch. That is, if we are able to find some restaurant open.
