North Mount Franklin

The weather is not looking good tomorrow. Do you have rainy weather/cold winter gear that you've been itching to try out? Let's do a hike tomorrow and try it out!

The temperatures will be in the mid 30's, with winds gusting as high as 30 mph. Chance of rain/snow is 20%.

We'll be doing North Mountain Franklin, starting at the West Cottonwood Springs trail head at the Tom Mays Unit. We'll head straight up to the ridgeline, which we will continue following up until we reach North Mountain Franklin. We'll take the safer way down, heading back down the ridge to the Mundy's Gap trail and back to our cars.

Afterwards, we may grab lunch in El Paso. We'll play it by ear.

DISTANCE is 6–8 mi round-trip.

ELEVATION GAIN is ~2500 ft gained.

FEES: $5/person. Federal Lands Passes are not accepted, but Texas State Parks passes are. Of course, if you carpool, please compensate your driver for gas!

DURATION: Finish by early afternoon.

PET FRIENDLY? Yes. Bring a muzzle (you shouldn't need be told to bring a proper leash), and if you'd like to unleash, ask others before you do so.

SKILL LEVEL is *NOT* beginner friendly. No whiners!

TERRAIN is mostly on well-maintained trail, but will be taking some not-used-often trails and will go through some portions through scree.

WEATHER Terrible.
