Alamo Mountain

  • Jan 2, 2011 · 9:00 AM

Hike and explore Alamo Mountain, north east of El Paso in New Mexico. It is known for petroglyphs (rock art) and great views. Walking sticks are highly recommended. As the site is on BLM land, there is no fee , but there are no facilities of any kind either. There is no cell phone service. I am not a professional guide, so come at your own risk. Meet January 2 at:

  • El Paso: 9 a.m. at the east-side Montana and Loop 375 Lowes parking lot (northwest corner probably). See map.

  • Las Cruces: 8 a.m. at the Pan Am Plaza (NOT center), outside Milagro's

More information:

Wow... that was out in the back country ;) Enjoyed all the different views and want to go back after finding a probable moderate route to the top.

right now it looks like we have 2 4x4's (mine and Eric) if anyone else plans on taking one please let us know so we can startfiguring out the seats...right now I think we are good but would not like to over cram vehicles if we don't have to.

My Vehicle isn't up to this and would have to carpool. Hopefully we have enough vehicles?

You need a 4x4 to get to the mountain, but not to the meeting point at Lowes. I have room in my 4x4.

I'll be driving and I have room for 3 or 4 folks if we need to cram a lil bit.

So, I think you *need* a 4x4 to get out there — is it possible the less fortunate of us with low-ground clearance cars carpool with those who do?
