Franklin Mountains eastern foothills: from Jobe Quarry to Chuck Henrich Park

The El Paso Ridge Walkers are doing a hike nearby in north El Paso. It's a short/simple hike, mostly flat, along bike trails in the eastern Franklin Mountains foothills.

Planned route is to park at both ends of trail, starting at Chuck Heinrich Park and ending up at the trailhead at Jobe Quarry. Distance some 6–8 mi, and should take some 4–5 hours. $1 fee for parking.

Meet:

  • Las Cruces: inside/in front of Milagro's Coffee, in the Pan Am Plaza (NOT Pan Am Center!) at 6 am
  • El Paso: Entrance to Jobe's Quarry (west side of the road) at 7:15 am, at the intersection of FM (Farm-to-Market Road) 3255 and FM 2529, aka Martin Luther King Jr Blvd and Stan Roberts Sr Ave in northeast El Paso. This is south of Chaparral. See map.

Great excursion. Tin Mine was fantastic, worth a trip back for that alone.

Great weather, friendly folks, and fantastic scenery. The length of hike was a little bit challenging, but there where no whiners on the trek. LOL. I think a great time was had by all!!

I'm not positive on all the details (which is why I left them out), but there is a trail head with parking at the quarry (it's not obvious to get there, which is why we're meeting at the intersection/quarry entrance first). After parking some cars at the quarry, we'll carpool down to Chuck Heinrich park, park there, and hike back to the cars.

I totally would've gone, but it looks like I'm working midnight to 8am Saturday morning, grrr :(... Anyhoo, I'm going to be doing North Franklin Peak or a hike/run on the Lower Sunset Trail on Sunday or Monday if anyone is interested?
