Bishop's Cap

  • Feb 26, 2011 · 7:30 AM

The El Paso Ridge Walkers is doing another hike nearby. This time, Bishop's cap, south of Las Cruces to the east of Interstate 10's Mesquite exit. Yes, it's early, but at least we don't need to drive far.

This hike is difficult and mostly off-trail (bring your trekking poles and gloves). It should be some 4–6 mi and take 5 hours. There may be others that hike the Sierra Vista trail that passes through the area, which is both easy and extremely scenic, should you decide Bishop's Cap is too difficult once you arrive.

Meet:

  • Las Cruces: 7:30 am in/outside Milagro's Coffee at Pan Am Plaza. See map: OpenStreetMap or Google.
  • El Paso: Meet with the Ridgewalkers at 7:15 am the I-10/Transmountain Road Shell. Meet and park at the gravel parking lot to the west of the gas station. See map: OpenStreetMap or (Google).
  • Trailhead: At 8:00 am at the Mossman Arroyo trail head of the Sierra Vista Trail. See map. Note: the road is rough, if you've a 4x4 vehicle please bring it.

Please specify where you'll be meeting us as a comment to your RSVP.

Great view. Definitely as difficult as I thought it'd be (i.e. very). Not for those afraid of heights. I only ended up with minor cuts/injuries!

Looks like a great hike. I wish I could go but work prevails this Saturday. Anyone got any sick pets? Have a terrific time.
