Fossils!! Slab Canyon to the Cactus Cliffs...

We will enjoy a moderate pace up the very nice Slab Canyon... then once up to the huge dryfall formation, we will take a two hour break to allow folks to explore the fossil laden cliffs.

We will return back down Slab Canyon...

Off Trail... Class I Canyoneering Hike: not advisable for Beginners

This is a cross post with the Alamogordo Trails Meetup site... check for more details there...

Thank You Michal, what is moderate for you was kicking my butt! Awesome adventure and my son Sammy showed me I need to get in shape.
Very scenic, cool fossils, and I have a new appreciation for the terrain immediately behind Alamogordo. Look forward to more discoveries.

Was great to share the day... Sammy was impressive. I'll have a link to the photos of that day soon...

Harder than it had to be? Weather broke just long enough to allow us to enjoy this exceptional area... and, we added lots of extras into the day!

Can't find Slab Canyon on my topographic map program. Where is it?

Slab Canyon is a spur canyon off of Marble Canyon (North)... not named on most topos... that climbs steeply, mostly on bedrock walkways...I've never done Bishop's Cap! Maybe John will chime in if he has...?

depending on the speed of the group.. 2-3 hours up canyon... 2 hours at the Cliffs... 2 hours hiking down and out... so, 7 hours= 4-5 pm finish...
