Co-hike with the El Paso Ridgewalkers. From Carol:

What: Hiking to the top of Tonuco Mountain
When: Saturday March 19
Meeting Place: Shell station at I10 and Transmountain road
Meeting Time: 7AM, we will leave promptly at 7:10AM
Alternate meeting place: Radium Springs exit #19 on I25 north of Las Cruces (7:45 AM+/-)
Difficulty: moderate
Length: 6 miles
Type: off trail, it will be a loop hike
Hiking time: 5-6 hours
Bring: Plenty of water, snacks, sunblock, hat, Sack Lunch to eat on top

Other: We will see a stunning canyon with colorful rocks, an old mining area, and a superb view from the top of the mountain.
This hike is described in Greg Magee's book Day Hikes and Nature Walks in the El Paso-Las Cruces Area.

This hike is off trail, bring good boots and trekking poles. The weather will be hot this Saturday (80 °F), so also bring more than enough water and sunblock. Lots of interesting rocks, petroglpyhs, etc in the area.

Las Cruces: At 7:15 am, K-Mart parking lot on North Main/US 70 and Del Rey, near Shell.
