Anthony's Nose, from NM404 → Aztec Caves

Cross-post w/ the El Paso Hiking Meetup.

This is the most difficult hike in the Las Cruces–El Paso area. If you don't already know what you're getting into, please avoid signing up! You will need over 2 gallons of water, lunch, and sufficient snacks.

We need to know whether you are attending by Thursday, Apr 24 to figure out carpooling.

DISTANCE is ~ 8 mi point-to-point.

ELEVATION GAIN is ~2500 ft gained.

FEES: $5/person. Federal Lands Passes are not accepted, but Texas State Parks passes are. Of course, if you carpool, please compensate your driver for gas!

DURATION: Finish by late afternoon.

PET FRIENDLY? No, unless your pet has wings.

SKILL LEVEL is *NOT* beginner friendly. No whiners!

TERRAIN is almost all off-trail and terrible. Loose rocks, spiky plants, and other misery.

AFTERWARDS we may get dinner somewhere.

MEET for carpool at:

• Las Cruces: 5:15 am, in/outside Milagro Coffee at Pan Am Plaza. Open at 6:30 am on the weekends, the coffee, breakfast burritos, and bagels (fresh on the weekends) are all good here. GPS: [masked]°N,[masked]°W (see on Google Maps, OpenStreetMap, USGS topo map)
• El Paso: 6:00 am, Franklin Mountains Tom Mays unit, Aztec Caves parking area. GPS: [masked]°N,[masked]°W (see on Google Maps, OpenStreetMap, USGS topo map)

Yes, very tough. Osa's paw got it's first chunk taken out. We ended with little water and six sore paws.

I’m pretty familiar w/ the terrain and this hike was definitely MUCH more challenging than I was mentally prepared for. At the peak, I was thinking this easily amongst the top 10 hardest hikes I’ve done. By the end, it was the /hardest/ I’ve ever done. Thanks everyone!
