Soledad Canyon Hike and Grill Party at Steve's House

It is Labor Day weekend! No work nor hard hike is for this weekend. Partying is the essence of the day.

In case you are going to feel guilty for gobbling down at the party, we will do a pretentious hike at Soledad Canyon to ease that feeling.

This is an easy hike that most hikers can handle. And again, it's an excuse for you to be at Steve's party.

You may simply do the hike, or skip the hike and go to the party directly.

We will walk the established loop trail in Soledad/Bar Canyon. The waterfall should be running big this particular time.

The end time of the hike is the beginning time of the grill party at Steve's house. Feel free to bring anything you want to put on the grill, and any beverage you want to drink. Or just bring yourself.

If you want to go home wash the sweat from the hike and dress pretty for the party, it's your choice. Another choice is to go directly from the hike to Steve's house. (Like, for example, you are from El Paso, and going home for a shower is not that convenient.) But you still want to have a shower, and/or change. Then you are welcome to bring your changing clothes and take a shower at Steve's house.

Plenty of hikers can testify not only that Steve has morphed into a good hike leader, he's also opened up his house for the after hike parties and be a welcoming, hearty host. There's precedence that his guest bedroom being borrowed overnight for sobering up purposes.

So, let's go party at Steve's house!

DISTANCE is about 3 mi. loop.

ELEVATION GAIN is ~500'.

FEES: None. Of course, if you carpool, please compensate your driver for gas!

DURATION: Finish by late morning.

PET FRIENDLY? Yes. Bring a muzzle (you shouldn't need be told to bring a proper leash), and if you'd like to unleash, ask others before you do so.

SKILL LEVEL is beginner/intermediate.

TERRAIN maintained trail.

WEATHER is sunny and hot. It is going to be in the higher 90s as high. So, bring plenty of drinking water

We're gonna skip the BBQ. Jordan's paw pads are all ripped up. :( I'm sorry! It was great to meet more hikers, though. Hope to see you next time.

I would have liked to meet you! I am sorry about your little one. They sell shoes for dogs. I tried to get a pair for my cat when the pavement got to hot in the Middle East but I have only seen them for dogs. Hope he feels better soon.

Yes- I will be investing in a pair before our next hike. His feet are doing a little better everyday and he doesn't seem to let it bother him too much!

This sounds like a great day, and a great first (easy, short) hike for me to bring my dog, who's spent the last several months recovering from tearing both ACLs. What can I bring for the BBQ? Don't be shy; I'm happy to make/bake some things. :)

It's a short hike, so about what time do you anticipate the bbq starting?

    August 26, 2014

    • Yubao

As the posting says, the bbq starts when the hike ends. The best guess is, the hike will most likely end around 11:30 am. So, the bbq will accordingly start at about 12:00 pm. However, to be safe, if one plans to skip the hike to the bbq part, get to his house at around 1:00 pm, and the grill should be sizzling at that point...

I am planning on the hike, and bringing another. I may drop her off and attend BBQ alone.....not sure until the time arrives

    Steve, what is your address?
Looks like I cannot make it to the hike but the BBQ sounds tempting.
