Leave Tracks Not Trash! - Cleanup at Prehistoric Trackways National Monument

This is an Everyday Event for youth and volunteers hosted by Groundwork Doña Ana and sponsored by Toyota and the National Environmental Education Foundation (NEEF) to encourage people to get outside and protect our natural environment.

Volunteers are requested to help cleanup Prehistoric Trackways National Monument. A guided hike exploring the geological history of the Monument, which includes fossils that predate the dinosaurs, will follow.

Snacks, water, T-shirts, and gloves will be provided. Wear comfortable clothes and footwear. There is little shade at the Monument so be sure to wear a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen.

Please RSVP (no charge) if you would like to attend. Adult volunteers are not required to register. Volunteer forms will be available at the event.  This is a youth participant event. For more information, please call Groundwork Doña Ana at (575) 639-2373.

Carpool will meet at Milagro's at 8:15 AM. The event host (organizer) will not be meeting the group at Milagro's, so please self-organize. The organizer will meet the group at the Trackways.

Directions (from Las Cruces): Travel on Picacho Ave./ Hwy. 70, at the stop light with Shalem Colony Trail, go north on Shalem Colony Trail for approximately 5.5 miles. Prior to reaching the Rio Grande River, you will reach a county road, Rocky Acres Trail. Turn west on Rocky Acres Trail. Go west approximately ¼ mile to a dirt road entrance on the left-hand side. Cross over a cattleguard and continue to the west. This road, past about a mile, is for high-clearance, 4wd vehicles only.

Thank you so much Mary! It was a perfect day to be out there - we picked up a little trash and found alot of shell fossils. The kids loved it!

It was an enjoyable outing and meeting new and former trekkers. I discovered a new area for hiking and exploring fossil records. Thank you.
