Indian Hollow/Fillmore Canyon Saddle

  • Jun 5, 2011 · 7:30 AM

Continuation of last week's hike up Fillmore Canyon, except coming up to the same saddle from the east up Indian Hollow. The distance will be shorter than from Fillmore Canyon, and through mostly shaded riparian forest.

Meet at:

  • Las Cruces: At 7:30 am, K-Mart parking lot on North Main/US 70 and Del Rey, near Shell. See map (OpenStreetMap or Google Maps).
  • El Paso: Meet the Ridgewalkers at 7:00 am, I-10 and Transmountain Road Shell. Meet and park at the gravel parking lot to the west of the gas station. See map (OpenStreetMap or Google Maps). Don't be late, Ridgewalkers leave 7:10 sharp!
  • Aguirre Springs' Group Campsite: At ~8 am (gate opens at 8).

Note: Parts of this trail may be burned, washed out, and extremely steep. After a certain point it'll become exploratory as we find the trail to the ridge — please do Pine Tree Loop scheduled the same day if you'd like something easier and known. This hike is tentative weather (if it's windy or the ground is wet, it'll be more difficult than it already is).

The trail seemed much longer than it was, maybe because of the arroyos near the base and the soft sand at all the steep climbs. Other than that it was a good group and a great day.

yea I read in an old guide book yesterday that the total milage is only about 7 mi but I have to agree it seemed a bit longer

GPS says we only did 6.85 mi, and climbed 2400 ft. A little depressing considering how challenging this was. http://www.gpsies.com/map.do?fileId=ipghoakjtfgqrgug

Sorry we missed you, Bruce, Bert, and Mark. But if you wanted to have a relaxing Sunday, this was not the hike for it (!!) Link to my photos
