Elephant Butte Camping/Black Range Crest Trail [exploratory]

I reserved a group campsite at Elephant Butte State Park, overlooking the lake, for 9/12-9/13.
Saturday morning is the Balloon Regatta over the lake. I plan to get up for that, break camp, and then head up into the Black Range in the afternoon to hike a part of the Crest Trail. I've never done this before, and I know no one in the hiking group, but thought I'd invite others along. If anyone is interested, send me an email at [masked] I'd ask that you chip in for the campsite ($30 total for the night) and bring food to share.

All, we'll meet in the K-Mart Parking Lot between 5:30-5:45. If you would rather meet at the campsite, it is the Ridge Road Group Shelter at Elephant Butte State Park. I'm thinking of doing an out and back hike of 4-5 miles total on the Black Range Crest Trail. It is a 45 minute drive from the campsite. If you'd like to do a different hike that's fine. This is meant to be a pretty loosely organized event. If you bring dogs, as usual, bring a muzzle. They must be leashed in the State Park at all times. I will have mine with me.

Also, if anyone is more familiar with the state park or the Crest Trail, please share your wisdom
