Slot Canyon in the Robledo Mountains

  • Dec 20, 2014 · 8:30 AM

In and out of the canyon is relatively easy, difficult is moderate if you climb up the canyon and hike down the ridgeline.

DISTANCE is ~4 mi round-trip.

FEES: None. Of course, if you carpool, please compensate your driver for gas!

DURATION: Finish by lunch.

PET FRIENDLY? Yes, if you don't climb. Bring a muzzle (you shouldn't need be told to bring a leash).

TERRAIN includes sand, rock, and an ankle-high crossing of the Rio Grande. If you have water shoes, bring them, there is probity no water.

WEATHER should be clear.

Las Cruces: 8:30 am, K-Mart parking lot on North Main/US 70 and Del Rey, near Shell. See map (OpenStreetMap or Google Maps).

Is anyone up to keep going and summit Robledo and Lookout Peaks?

I was there yesterday (11/13/14). There is ankle-deep water still. No problem with waterproof boots. I did not go to the end of the canyon, but the elevation gain to where I went was 393 feet.
