Something a little different! Many of the normal organizers are gone this week, so a mutiny has occurred and some of the members have asked to do Picacho Mountain on this date instead.
On Las Cruces West Mesa, Picacho Mountain is nearly the same height as Tortugas Mountain, but has more prominence when looking across the valley.
High clearance or 4X4 is suggested for this hike as the road to the trailhead is dirt and can have some big potholes/drops.
DISTANCE is variable depending on what we decide to do. Please plan between 2 and 6 mi.
ELEVATION GAIN is variable, but it is some 1000 ft to the top of Picacho Mountain.
FEES: None. Of course, if you carpool, please compensate your driver for gas!
DURATION: variable; we finish when we finish. Aim for getting done by 8:30 pm or earlier.
PET FRIENDLY? Yes. Bring a muzzle (you shouldn't need be told to bring a proper leash), and if you'd like to unleash, ask others before you do so.
SKILL LEVEL is variable. If you're a beginner, please come and let us know—we'll pick an easier route!
TERRAIN is loose, steep mountainside.
WEATHER is TBD, it can be windy on the top.
AFTERWARDS is TBA; we usually decide during the hike.
