Chloride Box Canyon is at the outskirt of Gila National Forest.
The Chloride Creek runs through the Canyon, so we will be hiking along the creek. Obviously, there will be multiple water crossing on this hike. Bring your water shoes. The creek is only a few inches deep.
There's not much elevation gain/loss, since the creek bed is largely flat. But expect it to be rocky though.
We will park somewhere along the entrance of the canyon, hike roughly 2.5 miles in, and then 4 miles back.
This is the first time the Jornada group venturing into this canyon. So, be the first to explore this canyon! Besides, it should turn out a cool, refreshing day. Don't stay in the dog panting heat in Las Cruces!
Please compensate you driver for gas this is a approx. 250 mile event.
We will have lunch at the Chloride Café and then visit the museum (a must see before you leave).
