Black Range Crest Trail (trail 79). The trailhead is at Emery Pass (on highway 152). Trail 79 is well maintained and easy to follow. This is an in-and-out hike, with the round trip approximately 8 miles. This trail is rated by the forest service as easy to moderate. Will be on the trail for about 4 hours.
The hike is in the Gila National Forest. Much of the trail is shaded by trees. Though it's a long drive, but the deep forest, cool weather, fresh air, much of this make it worth.
Travel time is about 2 hours with a pit stop at Hillsboro.
It's a 100 mile drive.
