Tonuco Mountain

What:   Hiking to the top of Tonuco Mountain
Meeting Place:  Shell station at I10 and Transmountain road
Meeting Time:  7AM, we will leave promptly at 7:10AM
Alternate meeting place:  Radium Springs exit #19 on I25 north of Las Cruces (7:45 AM+/-)
Difficulty:  moderate
Length:  5 miles
Type:  off trail, it will be a loop hike
Hiking time:  4-5 hours
Bring:  Plenty of water, snacks, sunblock, hat, Sack Lunch to eat on top

Other:  We will see a stunning canyon with colorful rocks, an old mining area, and a superb view from the top of  the mountain.
This hike is described in Greg Magee's book Day Hikes and Nature Walks in the El Paso-Las Cruces Area.

This hike is off trail, bring good boots and trekking poles. The weather will be(hot)so also bring more than enough water and sunblock. Lots of interesting rocks, petroglpyhs, etc in the area.

    Spent more time looking at the rock's then hiking,
    no let down there. Going back in two weeks,but it will be in the middle of the week, look for the post. It was
    4x4 land, love my Ram. A great group and the wine was needed after the hike.
    The mine was cool also !

    Was at at Shell station at 6:55 waited until 7:15am Noone showed up. My car is pretty low clearance so i don't want to drive on dirt sandy roads. Next time I guess I'll go straight to Las Cruces to get a carpool.
