This hike is being organized by the Alamogordo Meetup group and is cross listed here for the benefit of the Jornada group. I went on the October one and it was a great adventure containing beautiful canyons, fossils, vistas, and rock formations.

This First Saturday Series... Starts later... goes shorter... finishes earlier...

...yet still hits some great canyons.

This Series kicked off in October with one of the more demanding short loops... Deadman!

25 hikers working the interesting challenges of one of our nicer areas.

Redstone this month... has some great features...

This month: November... we will do the much easier Redstone Canyon... Surprise Canyon loop. These are the hidden middle canyon cuts in the Marble Canyon Drainage.

That is not to say there will not be challenges, but these cuts have none of the huge dryfall formations like Deadman... instead, shallower cuts with very interesting rock... different, but nice.

Less than six miles... probably around the 5 hour range, depending on our pace.

If folks are interested, we will add in a Potluck lunch break during the hike... let me know and we'll work out a menu...

We plan to keep the elevation gains below the 1500' mark... and mileage such that we should finish the hikes in the five hour range... or sooner.

It is still off trail... and class I canyoneering... Not for Beginnersunless they are ready to stretch themselves with a few challenging scrambles!

We will include some upper Deadman Loops... Black Rock Canyon loops... Ortega South Loops... Spur Canyon Loops... Arrow Canyons?.... and who knows. Might hit some of the Picnics!

Exact Routes to be developed and posted later.
