Doing this again for 2016! Apologies for the late notice—I didn't think I would be until a week or so ago.
This year will be much more low-key than the last two years. We'll head up, straight shot, on Wednesday, Jun 30, and come back Tuesday, Jul 5. That entire week we'll be camping in Half Moon Canyon (i.e. the same as last year, and the year before that), which is free and has ample water. No backpacking trip this year, though you should be ready to carry your equipment from the car as long as necessary.
Like last year, we will head to Aspen/Leadville/Buena Vista to get resupply (fresh) food, showers, laundry, every few days. I would like to check out the reasonable affordable hot springs in the area as well.
I would like to climb Mount Massive on Mon, Jul 4. Past that, no plans, and will be dependent on weather/conditions. After doing all ascents up Mount Elbert I've no plans to do it this year and want to check out the other 14k'ers in the area (La Plata, Mt. Princeton, Mt. Harvard, etc).
After last year and having to turn around twice due to snow, I'm HIGHLY recommending people bring snow traction gear (i.e. Yaktrax/microspikes, or snow shoes if you're willing to carry them up the mountain), because this year it is worse. If you are not fond of water crossings (I am not) you will need water shoes/sandals as well. Radios worked out reasonably well last year and I recommend them again this year.
You do not need to commit to the week, and can come/go as you wish. Once established I'll be posting the location of the campsite and it'll be up to you to figure out how to get there, however.
Please comment if you've any questions. The details of this event will be updated regularly based on what people ask.
• Firewood (almost certainly there will be no firewood near the campground to scavenge, at least nothing that will be dry)
• Dry ice
