Las Cruces Carpoolers -- Kmart at 7:30 a.m.

This is a cross-post with Alamogordo Trails and this is what they have to say:

Difficult... Long... Hard!!

We will park over by or in Oliver Lee State Park...

The walk over is across the rocky scrub to the south... then into the subtle mouth of this Exceptional Cut.

We will decide on the day which of the forks we will ascend... most likely the more difficult South Fork.

We might add of a short exploratory up into the Monument Cut if anyone wants that extra bit of effort (option to split the group at that point!?)

This Day is not for Beginners!!

While we rate this route as an Intermediate level effort, it is likely what most hiking clubs would rate as Advanced.

It is possible to hike the lower, easier portion of this canyon... and stopping whenever it becomes too much... turning back or waiting for the group to come back down.

Unless there is a popular request for a change of date... the Series will orient around the first weekend of the month... Saturday and sometimes, Sunday... maybe both.

This Season we will have a variable program... a mix of the Canyon and Canyon Light hikes with an emphasis on routes that have not been on the Calendar for awhile.

Folks should read the hike Descriptions carefully... make sure you are on a hike you will enjoy!

So... a blend of easier... and Difficult!

In general, most of our hikes tend to be harder than the norm... off trail... steep... but using going some great places!
