Bush Mountain at 8,631 feet, is the second highest peak in Texas and only 118 feet lower than Guadalupe Peak. Bush Mountain has a large, relatively flat, partly wooded summit. Views to the west down the sheer western escarpment are spectacular with a drop of almost one vertical mile.

Length: 14 mile day hike. 7 miles to and from the peak along the Tejas and Bush Mountain Trails.
Rating: Strenuous/Difficult This will be a challenging and very rewarding day hike into the high country of the park.
Elevation Gain/Loss: 3400 feet
There is no available water from springs along the route. All water must be carried. Dogs are not allowed in the back-country of the park. The park operates on Mountain Standard Time.
This outing is limited to 8 hikers who are in good physical condition, able to hike together for 14 miles in what could be very cold, windy conditions, and follow the leaders instructions. There is also the possibility of encountering snow in the high country.
We will leave at 7am from the east side Lowe's parking lot off of Montana Ave.
