Beeman Canyon/Horse Ridge Loop

Hosted by Jornada Hiking & Outdoors Club

Public group

This is a Class I Canyoneering Trek, with slightly different canyon characteristics than most of the Alamogordo area drainages. There is a very open approach, followed by a mile of jumbled, bus size boulders, followed by a narrow but open canyon... ascending up to the high point of Horse Ridge where the hang gliders soar from. All of it is interesting, but the boulder jumble provides the most fun. The off trail climb out of the drainage and onto the ridge is a bit overgrown, but not too bad. It makes for a longer day... not for those without a reasonable degree of conditioning, but not anywhere as difficult as Marble Canyon south.

DISTANCE is 9-11 mi round-trip, loop…. Depending on where we access ridge.

ELEVATION GAIN is in the 3,000’ range, depending on where we loop.
