Needs a location
Another cross-post w/ the El Paso Ridgewalkers (yeah, not had time to be particularly original lately—please post hikes you'd like to do!).
Tentative plan is to hike up to Aztec Cave in the Tom Mays Unit of Franklin Mountains State Park (El Paso), hike up to the top of the ridge, over to East Cottonwood Springs, and back across Mundy's Gap.
DISTANCE is ~5 mi round-trip.
ELEVATION GAIN is ~1000 ft gained.
FEES: $4/person for Franklin Mountains State Park (federal lands pass does work here). Of course, if you carpool, please compensate your driver for gas!
DURATION: Finish by early afternoon.
PET FRIENDLY? Not particularly, some scrambling some steep faces may be involved. Bring a muzzle (you shouldn't need be told to bring a leash).
SKILL LEVEL is NOT beginner friendly. No whiners!
TERRAIN includes scree, rock faces, and mountain-side foliage (including cacti, yucca, etc). Please be prepared to be stabbed.
WEATHER may be windy, TBA.
AFTERWARDS unknown, may get lunch in ELP somewhere.
