Needs a location
The Ron Coleman Trail goes along the top of the Franklin Mountains from McKelligan Canyon to Smuggler's Gap (where Transmountain Road connects east & west El Paso). A short 3.8 mi, the trail is difficult: there is no shade (we must start early, and requires some 40 feet of rock climbing/scrambling. You definitely feel like to accomplished something for the day doing this trail.
We will need at least two vehicles to shuttle between start and stop points. If there is not enough interest I will cancel Saturday evening.
DISTANCE is some 4.3 mi, one-way.
ELEVATION GAIN is some ~1000 ft gained.
FEES: $4/vehicle (sorry, federal lands pass not accepted).
DURATION: Finish by late morning/early afternoon, no earlier than 11 am.
PET FRIENDLY? No.
SKILL LEVEL is NOT beginner friendly. No whiners!
TERRAIN includes steep inclines, rocky, rugged ridge lines, and 3 via ferrata (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Via_ferrata) (sections with climbing chains), with some 40 ft of near-vertical climbing.
WEATHER may be windy.
AFTERWARDS we may stop in El Paso for lunch.
