I realize this is last-minute, but it occured to me that there is an AWESOME hiking opportunity for Sunday afternoon... as you probably know there is an annular eclipse happening, the path of 'annularity' goes NW to SE through NM and clips the Ruidoso area. To stand on a high mountain at eclipsed sunset and watch a large portion of the 'eclipse shadow' over White Sands would be once-in-a-lifetime view. Realize this venture would require hiking back in the moonless (duh) night and require carrying a good light source (2 to be safe) + GPS for returning.
