  • Feb 23, 2008 · 7:30 AM
  • Dog Canyon

It's supposed to take about 3.5 hours and has a pretty waterfall. If you want to check out reviews and pictures, head to www.localhikes.com, click on NM-Las Cruces, and then click OLSP Dog Canyon Line Cabin (under "outside the metro area").
http://www.localhikes... We'll meet at the Kmart off I-70 and carpool at 7:30am. Bring water, lunch or snacks for the trail and good shoes. Hope to see you all there, Matya $5 park entrance fee required/car.

This was a great hike. Not too strenuous; but still a nice workout! The group was a lot of fun and scenery was beautiful as well.

From the messages we're sending back and forth, it seems like people would like to get more definite about the hike. My preference would be to meet pretty early on Saturday so that we can drive to Alamo and still hit the trail before it gets too hot. Is 7:30 agreeable to people? If you think I'm crazy, just say so... :) FYI-there is a gas station right by Kmart so people can fill up (on gas or coffee!) before we go.

Since we've done Aguirre Springs and Baylor Pass, I was wondering if anyone would be up to going to Dog Canyon in Alamogordo? It's supposed to take about 3.5 hours and has a pretty waterfall. If you want to check out reviews and pictures, head to www.localhikes.com, click on NM-Las Cruces, and then click OLSP Dog Canyon Line Cabin (under "outside the metro area"). See what you guys think... I'm game. We could meet at the Kmart off I-70 and carpool.

What about Aguirre Springs? It's close and about a 4.5 mile hike.
