To initiate their celebration of the Virgin of Guadalupe, the village of Tortugas, NM and the members of La Corporación de los Indigenes de Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe organize a pilgrimage to the top of Tortugas Mountain where they celebrate mass. The following day (12 December) they install their new officers and offer a comida. For some forty years Pat Beckett, past President of CARTA, was the head cook.
This is a moderate hike covering less than 3 miles and an altitude gain of 500 ft. The trail is wide and well maintained. Those that wish can take any of a number of goat tracks up the side of the mountain. Pat Beckett will meet us at the gathering point, give us a short introduction and send off. There is no cost but CARTA would be happy to take your membership or renewal. No reservation necessary. For further information please call: Pat Beckett [masked]) or Ben Brown ([masked]).
