August Meetup - Baylor Pass

With only a few suggestions Balyor Pass it is. We have a few options and none are exclusive. It's a six mile trail with the west trail head off Baylor Canyon road south of 70 and the east trail head at Aguirre Springs.
Bayloy Pass Option one; a 12 mile hike there and back starting on the west side. Option two; shuttle a couple of cars to Aguirre Springs and end at the recreation area. Option three is a combination of one and two. I'm open for suggestions. Meet at K-Mart parking lot at 8 AM or at the Balyor Pass trail head on the west side around 8:30. Tom

I was not able to get many pictures of the group, mostly Chris - by the time Tom helped me find my camera in my backpack- I'd missed photo ops for Buster- and the partial/group shots- these are what I was able to get.

Tom, thanks for organizing the hike. I also want to thank Carlos for the Rain drink, which got me to the top of the canyon. Great meeting new hikers and see ya on the next hike.

I agree, good company, and beautiful scenery. Chris and I were having such a good time, hopefully we didnt bother anyone, with our almost constant chatter. Carlos is right, after taking short drives to Ruidoso and Cloudcroft I'd like to get a closer look at the area and do a hike there sometime. Our ascent, on Baylor Pass would have been more bearable, a couple of hours earlier at 7 am- the trail on the west side of the Pass is full of huge boulders, that, along with the late morning sun, made having frequent water breaks a neccessity. During our descent on the east side of the pass we were able to enjoy the breezes more, more shady spots to rest in and longer stretches of dirt trail. By the end of the trail I felt energized and already looking forward to the next hike.

We did not get started until 9:00 am. With the days being hot, we really need to start earlier and also think about going to Ruidoso and Clouldcoft. Good hike, great time and good fellowship.

This was a very enjoyable hike. Great weather and great scenery - wish I had remembered my camera. To me the difficulty is moderate, the trail is well defined and maintained. I will definitely do this one again.

Hello Patrica, Gald you're going to join us.
Here are the directions to the trailhead but you're welcome to meet us at the K-Mart parking lot.
Take US-70 east for the intersection of I-25 and US-70 for about 10 miles, exit at Baylor Canyon Road. Turn right (south) on Baylor Canyon road. The trail head is about 2 miles south on the left.

I have done the 6 mile loop. I would like to do the 12 mile hike this time. Half the group could do one way and those that need more exercise could do the 12 mile hike. The 6 mile hike is mild and can be done pretty fast. the loop back is down hill and should be pretty easy.
