Organ Peak [exploratory]

Hiking through Fillmore Canyon to the Organ Peak and back.

Why Las Cruces hikers usually drive for hours to find a hike, instead of hiking in the "backyard" -- the Organs ? The answer is very simple: The Organs are just too difficult to hike. Comparing with the Needle, the Peak is not much easier.

we addressed some minor foot problems during this hike... folks might want to be aware of the link to Fixing Your Feet... a site dedicated to just that issue... might be nice to post a link in the discussions section for easy reference?

I always thought that the Organ Mountains are enchanted. The traverse towards the peak has always been a fascination to me.

Exceptional area... well worth the drive over from Alamo... I'm sure Yuboa will be harrassing me to head back over to hit the top over the coming weeks. I'll be back!

    Very Nice!

Thanks again for the first aid! Hopefully, I can get them healed before the next trip and wear a different pair of shoes.

Great Area! well worth the drive over from Alamo... I liked the blend of trail/off trail, and the exceptional rocky vistas... very nice!

I'm bringing the rope! If I read the map correctly, I can turn off On Baylor Canyon rd from 72, and come into the road from above, avoiding the interstate... or get lost trying... I'll head over early!

Apparently I can make this, so I'm adding another slot. Also, I'm mentioning that this hike is exploratory—there is no trail to the top and is very off-trail!

Is this a moderate hike? How long will it take? I will help me to decide. Thank you :D

It's a difficult hike, though not quite as difficult as Organ Needle. About 7-8 hours?
