Tortugas Mountain (aka "A Mountain", because it has a big "A" on it as seen from NMSU/Interstate 25) is an urban mountain with many, many hiking trails to explore.
In case you missed wandering around in the dark from Tuesday’s Turtles & ice cream hikes, this is a chance to get to do it one more time!
Planned route is to walk around the base of Tortugas Mountain, counterclockwise, climb the “rock slide” maintenance road up, then take the road down back to our cars.
Please bring a flashlight/headlamp and good shoes.
DISTANCE will be ~6 mi.
ELEVATION GAIN will be ~1000 ft
FEES: None. Of course, if you carpool, please compensate your driver for gas!
DURATION: 2–3 hours.
PET FRIENDLY? Yes. Bring a muzzle (you shouldn't need be told to bring a proper leash).
SKILL LEVEL is intermediate, because we'll be going up the "rockslide".
TERRAIN is up-and-down loose, rocky trail as well as steep mountainside.
WEATHER should be clear.
AFTERWARDS Baskin Robbins does not have it's dollar scoop night on Monday, but we may think of something.
