Meet in Pan Am parking lot (east side, as usual) at 11 AM Jan 1 From the pan am, go east on university towards dripping springs. Go a couple miles or so past A mountain, then turn south on soledad canyon road, The road turns left at a fire station (this is talavera, home of the rich and famous of Las Cruces) Then go almost all the way to the mountains, and turn south at Ladera Canyon road. From there go 1/2 mile on a dirt road, then turn left towards the mountains on a rougher dirt path (still OK for cars) and go a short distance. If I remember right, there is a trash dumpster where you make this last turn. We can meet here at 12:30 if anyone wants to. The hike is about a 4 or 5 mile loop, has a small cave and a couple of cliff overlooks. It gains maybe 1000 ft. so its maybe a little easier than Baylor pass. I plan to leave my "rude dog" at home this time, he will get his exercise earlier in the day.
