Box canyon and Picacho Peak

  • Jan 4, 2009 · 9:00 AM

I still see a lot of holiday interest in hiking, we had 12 on Dec 27 and 9 on Jan 1st, so one more time before the work grind resumes... Meet at Pan Am east lot again, 9 AM sunday 4 Jan. This is the Picacho peak hike from the west, over the summit, down the east side and back around the box canyon. It is the one described in Greg Magees local blue hiking book. This is another 1/2 day hike like the last 2, should be back by 1 or 2 at the latest. Most of it is on trail but there is a section of open desert walking with no trail.

It was great we had an expert with us that made it a great hike. Thanks Bert! I would not venture the box canyon and picacho peak on my own. I would need the expertise of someone like Bert to lead through the Box canyon.
