Pine Tree Loop

Hosted by Jornada Hiking & Outdoors Club

We did Pine Tree Loop in the snow Friday. It was a lot of fun, so we're going back this Sunday. The trail is fairly well maintained, and almost like climbing stairs in some parts. It is a 4.5 mile loop with 1000 ft elevation gain. The views up close to the back side of the Organ Mountains, as well as the Tularosa Basin below are very nice, provided we are not up in the clouds :). We'll go past huge boulders and then get up amongst the pine trees. I have room for a few folks to piggyback on my annual pass to Aguirre Springs, otherwise there is a $5 per vehicle entrance fee. There are actually two entry points for the trail. We will start from the one near the bigger parking area, which is the second entry point as you follow the looping road. It has been a bit chilly, so wear some layers you can peel off as the morning and elevation progress. It rains/snows there more than Las Cruces, so bring a poncho or rain jacket (or pink umbrella if you are Yubao LOL!!). I also recommend at least 2 liters of water, even in this cooler weather. Meet at the Kmart parking lot corner nearest the gas station near DelRey and Hwy 70 at 8am.
