Rabbit Ears Plateau

Rabbit Ears Plateau is a strenuous 8 mile hike with spectacular panoramic views. I’m going to estimate about 4 ½ to 5 hours with a nice break for lunch at the top.

This hike had everything you could want from a hike. A great mix of people, a great pack of dogs, perfect hiking weather, you name it. It was a challenge of course, but these mountains are always a challenge. The giant boulders path we went up was a real "bxxxx", but being surrounded by all those massive rock walls made it worth the effort. A beautiful hike, but taken infrequently...

And yes, I could barely walk the next day.

It was a wonderful hike. I wasnt' prepared for all the boulders we had to climb but it was definitely worth hiking.

Too dangerous for a large hiking group. It's strictly a hike for those that are extreme mountain or rock climbers.

I suggest that we go on hikes that members have hiked in the past year or so. Then the hike is fresh in their mind.

Tough hike, boulder after boulder, and I can barely walk today. But it was worth it, the views were incredible from the plateau and really enjoyed the group of poeple.

This one set the standard for difficulty. It was a good hike or rather more of a 3200' climb.

To sum it up. This one was half and half. The first three miles were pleasant. Then if you are not into strenuous hiking this was it. I found the area to be beautiful and a challenge. This was not a hike to the top for the faint of heart. You had to be good on your feet the last four miles. The pay off was the incredible view at the top. We stopped on the 'saddle' and could see the 'sharks tooth near White Sands. And look in the opposite direction into Las Cruces, the Dona Ana's and beyond. All in all a good hike. Four paws for the pooches who made it to the top!
