Does math spark joy in you or dread? I believe that even if your elementary or high school math classes left you loathing the subject or believing you'll never be good at it, there's lots of delightful, accessible, math fun that can spark joy for you. So, if you already think math is joyful or you think your world might be better if you did find math joyful, come join us to learn and explore!
We are going to do a bunch of "math is fun to play with" type events. We are also going to do a study group on the mathematics of Quantum Gravity and maybe another study group on Category Theory (especially if it starts to look crucial to the Quantum Gravity).

Loop Quantum Gravity, S2E2: Rovelli & Vidotto ch. Preface, 1.4 to 1.7
526 Selby Ave., St. Paul, MN, USWe are now starting to dive into the texts. Our Loop Quantum Gravity (LQG) study group will be working through the mathematics behind LQG using these two textbooks:
- Rovelli, C., & Vidotto, F. (2015). Covariant loop quantum gravity: An elementary introduction to quantum gravity and spinfoam theory. Cambridge University Press.
- Gambini, R., & Pullin, J. (2011). A first course in loop quantum gravity. Oxford University Press.
Rovelli/Vidotto: Sections 1.4, 1.5, 1.6, and 1.7.
We will work through the examples and exercises, but it would be good if you took a stab at them ahead of time.If you don't have a copy of the book, you can find PDFs of chapters of it here. It's a little awkward to navigate, but it does work.
These are all in chapter one: "Spacetime as a quantum object".Come prepared to: ask questions, share insights, and work through some mathematical challenges together. Looking forward to seeing everyone there.
