Discussion: High Performance Browser Networking by Ilya Grigorik

Details
We've been reading a lot of books about the Javascript language, but for most of us the practical reality is that we use Javascript to build web applications. Frequently, the difference between a good and a bad user experience comes down to the performance of your web application. That has to do with more than just the Javascript, although it's a definite factor.
This month we're going to take a look at Ilya Grigorik's book, High Performance Browser Networking (http://chimera.labs.oreilly.com/books/1230000000545). Grigorik is a web performance expert working at Google on their "Make the Web Fast" team. This recent book encapsulates a wide range of topics around web performance optimization, starting with the basics of networking, and building to the latest emerging standards and how to take advantage of them.
As Javascript development now extends from the back end to the front end, and web applications come to rely more heavily on performant, efficient use of Javascript, this book seems like it will have something useful for all of us. It's a substantial read, and we're setting a tentative date a little further out than usual to give us all time to get through the book before we meet to discuss it.
And hey, congratulations to all of us! We've been doing this Meetup group for a year now.
Update: Great news! Ilya Grigorik, the author of "High Performance Browser Networking," is planning to attend our meetup this time, so please come prepared with questions and feedback about the book for him. Looking forward to a very exciting discussion!
