We are excited to welcome Stefan Böhringer with the following topic (in-person in Weiden, event language: English/German):

Java made the impossible possible! Insights from building apps for the German education system.
This talk tells the story of how a small university team, with the help of Java's broad ecosystem and community, created an innovative educational screening platform for the Bavarian education system called Eddipuls. Eddipuls enables elementary schools and the first grades of secondary schools in Bavaria to measure students' reading skills and provides teachers with appropriate, customized support measures. The main challenge of the project lay in the following points: the team consisted of just a handful of members of the university's “Educational Data Science” department who had little experience in building larger applications. In addition, the application had to scale well when thousands of students were using the platform at the same time.

In the talk we not only highlight the role of the Java user group community in this process but also the role of open source technology like the Quarkus framework, Jakarta EE and Keycloak to name just a few.
Anybody who is interested in how Java could help small low-budget teams to accomplish big things is welcomed to attend.
