Why Deploying Java AI Apps to Azure Is Easier Than You Think

Session Topic
Nobody on this call knows exactly what will trip up when Brian tries to hook a freshly built Java app up to a model he provisions live in Azure AI Foundry. That's deliberate. There's no pre-recorded fallback, and no slide waiting in the wings that just says "and then it works."
The first half is Johannes building a support-ticket classifier in Java from nothing, using Spring Boot, Vaadin, and langchain4j. The second half is Brian provisioning a real model in Azure AI Foundry and pointing that same app at it, live, with whatever friction shows up left in rather than edited out.
The honest expectation is that the friction turns out smaller than the reputation "Java plus AI plus deploy to Azure" carries. So by the end, the point isn't just watching us wing it. It's seeing for yourself whether that reputation actually holds up.

What we'll do

• Live-code a support-ticket classifier in Java from a blank editor, using Spring Boot, Vaadin, and langchain4j
• Wire up a langchain4j AI Service that turns a ticket into a structured Java record: a category label and a suggested reply
• Watch Brian provision a real model live in Azure AI Foundry, with the actual configuration shown on screen
• Point the already-running app at that model without touching or redeploying its code
• Talk through what breaks or takes longer than expected, in real time
• Open a discussion on what AI in production actually costs a Java team
• Answer questions from the community
