About us
Not for everyone… and that’s exactly the point.
If your ideal catch-up is sitting in a restaurant paying a small fortune for food and making awkward small talk… you’ll probably hate it here. And that’s okay.
This group is for people who’d rather get back to basics. Random road trips. Hidden beaches. Bush walks. Waterfalls. Caves. Stargazing. Tiny museums. Weird little attractions. Back roads. Places you’ve never heard of. Taking the scenic route just because.
Some adventures will be epic. Some might be complete flops. Who knows? Most of the places we’ll be going, none of us have been before. That’s kind of the point.
I don’t care if you’re rich or broke, gay or straight, tattooed or suited. I don’t care what you do for work or where you come from. Just be a decent human. If you can be yourself, let everyone else be themselves, and you’re not overly needy, highly strung, or into drama, you’ll fit right in.
I’m being straight up because I’m hoping this becomes more than just another Meetup group. Hopefully we’ll make some lifelong friends, have some amazing adventures, and end up with a collection of stories that all started with, “Well… let’s just see what’s there.”
How it works
Everyone who joins gets to choose an adventure in the order they joined.
There are only two rules.
- Your adventure has to be either:
- the most special place in New Zealand to you, or
- somewhere random you’ve always felt drawn to, whether you’ve been there before or not.
We don’t care if it turns out to be amazing or terrible. The adventure is in finding out.
- No obvious tourist spots. If it’s somewhere we’ve all been a dozen times or it’s on every “Top 10 Things to Do” list, save it for another day.
This group is about hidden gems, forgotten places, quirky attractions, secret swimming holes, random little cafés in the middle of nowhere, old tunnels, abandoned relics (where it’s legal), scenic lookouts, art, nature, history, or anything else that’s off the beaten track.
Indoor or outdoor. Day trip or overnight. It doesn’t matter. If it’s different, unexpected, or simply somewhere worth exploring, it’s fair game.
One more thing…
Pleeeease bring your kids! I’ll usually have my four-year-old with me, and she’ll do all our heads in if she doesn’t have other little explorers to adventure with. 😂
That’s it.
Life’s too short to spend every weekend doing the same thing.
First adventure will be posted once we’ve got 20 members.
