Presentation #1:

Speaker: Eno Thereska (Confluent)

Title: What's New in Kafka 0.10

Abstract:

Apache Kafka 0.10 is a major release and this talk will go over some of the new features and enhancements.

In particular, one of the main contributions is Kafka Streams, a library that turns Apache Kafka into a modern stream processing systems. Kafka Streams includes a high level language for describing common stream operations (such as joining, filtering, and aggregating records), allowing developers to quickly develop powerful streaming applications.

Speaker Bio:

Eno is a software engineer at Confluent. Prior to Confluent, Eno was a senior researcher at Microsoft Research where he led the incubation and tech-transfer of several projects related to file and storage systems. He received his PhD from Carnegie Mellon University.

Presentation #2:

Speaker: Oleg Sidorkin (IBM)

Title: Kafka and Functional Design

Abstract:

In this talk, we will share several use cases where Kafka and Apache Spark helped us to achieve a set of unique application features including self-healing, self-introspection, correctness, replayability and deterministic behavior.

Speaker Bio:

Oleg is the Architect at IBM Commerce Technical Strategy. He provides leadership for a team of experienced scientists and engineers building advanced demand forecasting and optimization solutions for largest US retailers. Oleg holds Ph.D. in engineering and computer science.

Parking Information and Arrival Information:

Parking garage entrances are located behind the building as identified by P1, P2, P3 in the attached image. Use P1 or park in the garage somewhere closer to Shell Blvd. From the parking there is access to the lobby of the 1001 building (directly from the ground level or through elevators if parked on the upper floors - follow the signs to 1001 lobby). You can also exit through the parking entrances and come in through the main building entrance. See map below.

Please note - The parking gates won't let cars in past 7 pm (they will only open on the way out), but latecomers can use the parking spots in front of the building.

There will be someone in the lobby to let people in through the front entrance, and key you up the elevator, and someone on the 4th floor to direct you to the meeting room.
