Would you like to be part of a group seeking to understand and support each other with concerns about the challenges posed by climate change, peak oil, globalisation, and Covid 19? We are seeking to explore creative responses that we can engage with, both individually and collectively, through local community, culture, localisation and value systems, with a perspective of opportunity as well as mitigation.
As well as being educative, the purpose of the group is to provide mutual support in turning ideas into action.
There are lots of groups already active in these areas, so why join another one? The scope of the subject is vast, from personal recycling and spirituality to global politics, economics and religion, and each person may engage with these issues in a different way. This group will therefore provide a forum where each person’s interests and passion can be met with encouragement and support.
Why the name ‘Kairos’? In Greek mythology, Kairos is the personification of opportunity, luck and favourable moments. He is shown with only one lock of hair on the front of a bald head, which could be grasped as he passed by, but with nothing to grab hold of once he was past and the moment had gone.
The issues that the world faces are very much of the moment, and are the culmination of many different patterns and strategies in society and the world. Depending upon who you listen to, they are either framed as just another set of challenges that will be surmounted by mankind’s intrinsic genius, or could be the beginning of the end of civilisation as we know it. Hence the name “Kairos”. Kairos is an opportunity that appears at the right moment and can bring about change. This is what we seek to do, so, “Kairos”.
