About the Talk
Unlike Scrum, SAFe, or other prescriptive frameworks with tightly-defined roles, events, and artifacts, Kanban "loosens the reigns" on process-adherence, demanding curiosity, openness, and willingness to own and evolve your process collaboratively.Sounds great, huh? Well, not for everyone. Woven deep within the DNA of many organizations are the key tenets of Fredrick Taylor, the father of the industrial revolution. Two of the four principles of scientific management, as presented by Taylor to US congress in 1911, were as follows:

  • Managers manage and workers work (clear division of labor)
  • There's one right way to do things (standard work!... and guess who knows the "right way"?... you guessed it! The managers!)

Unbeknownst to many of us, these principles are operating in each of us and often inform how we think, work, and relate to one another in corporate environments. Having the "right process" and wielding it in such a way that ensures "high performance" may be a key reason that your boss doesn't like Kanban.Join us in a provocative and highly-interactive conversation to explore:

  • The core addiction behind all “process junkies"
  • How frameworks plant false hopes and protect us from the fire-y nature of the present moment
  • How a "Scrum-inspired" process can be more powerful and productive than "textbook scrum"
  • Steps you can take in your teams and organizations to inspire deeper process ownership

You'll exit this session with an appreciation for both Scrum and Kanban, and some fresh ideas on how to invigorate and enliven your teams and organizations!
