Inunaki Southern Hiking and Onsen♨

Many of you may not think that there is an Onsen and nature in Osaka because Osaka is famous for its city scape. However, since it’s surrounded by mountains, there is abundant nature and Onsen.

In this trip, we ‘ll go to Mt. Inu Naki, southern part of Osaka and mountain, which is very close to Kansai international airport. Precise history is written later.

We’ll start from temple and end at taking Onsen.

8:30 Riding bus to Daiitokuji temple, starting point of the hiking
9:20 Arriving at Daiitokuji temple,

Start hiking (5.5 hours, including some breaks and lunch time )

14:30~15:00 Finish hiking
We'll take two plans after hiking

15:00 Taking Onsen
15:50 Bus departs
16:28 Arriving at Izumisano, head to Osaka

(2)
15:50 Bus departs
16:28 Arriving at Izumisano station,
Then ride the train to Rinku town (one station ahead of Izumisano) and take Onsen at Rinku town

If we arrive earlier than schedule, we’ll take plan (1)
But if we arrive on or behind schedule, we’ll take plan (2) because with original plan, we can only have 30~60 minutes for taking onsen!!

If we go to the Onsen in Rinku town, we can enjoy it for long hours.

＜History of Mt. Inunaki＞
It was opened around 1300 years ago by the founder of mountain aesthetics, En No Ozunu. Mountain aesthetic is a kind of region that includes walking and training in the mountains and opening your own thoughts.
“Inu Naki”, literally it means “Dog crying”.
Around 900-year, one hunter visited Mt. Inunaki. Suddenly, his dog barked a lot and because of its bark, he failed to kill deer. Being annoyed by its dog’s act, hunter killed dog. However, after that, the dog’s neck attacked a snake, which was about to attack hunter. Dog barked to protect its owner!!
Owner regretted this act so much, he became monk and built grave for dog.
Hearing its story, Japanese emperor at that time gave “Inu Naki”, which means “Dog barking “to this mountain.

犬鳴温泉と和歌山への旅
大阪は都会的な街並みが有名なので、温泉があるとは思わない方も多いかもしれませんが、周りを山々に囲まれているので、実は自然も温泉も豊富です。今回の旅では、関西国際空港からとても近い、大阪南部の犬鳴山へ行きます。最後には温泉に入ります！

8:07 岸和田駅到着

8:30 バスでハイキングのスタート地点の大威徳寺へ
9:20 大威徳寺到着
ハイキング開始（5.5 時間、休憩込です）
14:30~15:00 ハイキング終了

着く時間によって、以下の二つのパターンに分かれます。
(1)
15:00 近くの温泉に入る
15:50 バス出発
16:28 泉佐野到着、大阪へ

(2)
15:50 温泉に入らずに、バスで出発
16:28 泉佐野駅到着
その後電車でりんくうタウンまで行き、りんくうタウンで温泉に入る

予定より早く到着した場合はプラン (1) で行きますが、予定通りまたは遅れて到着した場合はプラン (2) で行きます。
というのも、時間通り、または予定より遅れると、温泉に入る時間が 30~60 分しかないためです。りんくうタウンの温泉なら、24時まで空いてるため、ゆっくり休めます。

＜犬鳴山の歴史＞
約1300年前に山岳修行の創業者である。役小角（えんのおづぬ）が開いたとされています。山岳修行とは、山を歩いたり、修行したりすることで、自分の考えを開く、宗教の一種です。
約900年前、一人の猟師が犬鳴山を訪れました。突然、飼い犬が吠え始め、その吠え声のせいで鹿を仕留めることができませんでした。猟師は犬の行動に腹を立て、犬の首をはねましたが、その後、跳ねた犬の首が、猟師を襲おうとしていた蛇を襲いました。犬は飼い主を守るために吠えていました。
飼い主はこの行為を非常に後悔し、僧侶になり、犬の墓を建てました。この話を聞いた当時の宇多天皇は、この山に「犬鳴き」を与えたとのことです。
