What we’re about
The Kansas City Postgres User Group serves the midwest region including Kansas, Missouri, and surrounding areas. Our focus is creating a community and network for folks working with Postgres in their day-to-day activities. Kansas City Postgres Group is very new and is in the organization phase. The tentative plan is to have bi-monthly meetings in person with rotating topics presented by group members. We are supported by the United States Postgres Organization.

See all- Postgres, AI, and Vectors - Oh my!Johnson County Library - Lenexa City Center, Lenexa, KS
Join us for a discussion about AI inside Postgres. Most of the Postgres workloads for AI are powered by the pgvector extension and we’ll cover some of the high level basics of AI, embeddings, and databases. Tom is also working on a demo of Quivr backed by Supabase (which runs on Postgres). Tom will spend a few minutes on the demo. He’ll also leave plenty of time for an open roundtable discussion about AI inside Postgres, what is happening in the space, and what projects and resources exist to get started.
We'll meet in the library at 5 and will head across the sidewalk around 6 to the city market for snacks, drinks, and social time. Drop-ins are welcome.
- Built on Postgres, Built for Scale: Exploring the Inner Workings of YugabyteDBJohnson County Library - Lenexa City Center, Lenexa, KS
Denis Magda, a veteran on the Postgres speaking circuit, will be in town for the Kansas City Developer Conference (KCDC) and we've invited him to drop by the KC Postgres group.
About the talk:
This talk delves into the YugabyteDB architecture, covering its shared-nothing architecture, sharding with geo-partitioning algorithms, distributed transactions, RAFT-based synchronization protocol, and more. The session also examines the similarities and differences between YugabyteDB and PostgreSQL and will provide a better understanding of how and when to use YugabyteDB.About Yugabyte
YugabyteDB is a distributed SQL database that offers a familiar SQL interface through its query engine built on PostgreSQL. Its storage engine is based on a distributed Log-Structured Merge-tree, allowing for efficient handling of large amounts of data while maintaining low latencies.Reception
We will meet in the library at 5 for Denis' discussion and then around 6 we'll head across the sidewalk for snacks, drinks and social time sponsored by Yugabyte.
