KarlsruheJS April: Geodata for JS Devs + Hand Gesture Recognition in the Web

It's spring, flowers are starting to bloom again, the perfect time to plant the seed of JavaScript knowledge in your brains! This time, we're teaming up with Exxeta to provide you with two amazing talks, some cold drinks, and pizza 🍕

TALK #1: Geodata for JavaScript developers | Jakob Miksch
This talk provides JavaScript developers with insights into the geospatial web. Covering geodata basics, coordinate reference systems, and geospatial file formats, we then explore standardized APIs like WMS, WFS, and emerging technologies such as OGC APIs, Vector Tiles and cloud-optimzed formats. We delve into popular mapping libraries like OpenLayers, Leaflet, and MapLibre, along with projects that integrate them with frontend frameworks like Vue or React. Additionally, we touch upon geocoding, route planning and various other web-based utilites for handling geodata.

TALK #2: Hand Gesture Recognition with React / TensorFlow.js / Google MediaPipe | Tomas Gonzalez
In this talk, Tomas will explore the integration of TensorFlow.js and Google MediaPipe with React to create a dynamic hand gesture recognition system and the challenges he ran into. Demonstrating real-time interaction capabilities, the project showcases how machine learning models can be deployed in web applications to enhance user interfaces, also how to convert python models to TensorFlow.js.
